Renting a projector is a great way to share your life together with your guests.
You can show off photos and videos from your relationship, creating intimacy and visual interest without too much work on your part. Projected photos and videos also give your guests, who may not know each other, something to talk about.
But first you need to decide which projector to rent and who to rent it from. Here’s what you need to ask about before renting a projector.
What is the projector’s lumen (brightness)?
If adjusting the lighting at your wedding will be difficult (or you just don’t want to worry about it), Wedding Spend recommends a projector with 3000 lumens or higher. Regardless, it’s a good idea to let the rental company know the conditions you’ll be using the projector in. (It’s also best to use the projector indoors, though you may be okay in the evening–no projector can compete with direct sunlight.)
What is the projector’s resolution?
You don’t want your images to look blurry. The resolution you need will depend on what you’re planning to display, but for regular pictures, you should be fine with SVGA resolution (800 x 600). For HD, you’ll want something closer to 1280 x 800 (720p), known as WXGA resolution, or possibly even true HD (1920 x 1080, or 1080p).
What size screen do you realistically need or want?
While couples often think bigger is better, a screen that’s too large could take or fit awkwardly in the space, while a projector that’s too small will make your images hard to see. Consider the dimensions of the reception hall and where in the hall you want to display your images before choosing a projector to rent.
How long do you need the projector/when do you need to rent?
Be sure to consider setup and testing time, as well as the importance of reducing your own stress. If it makes you feel better to know that you have the projector a day ahead of time or you have a speech to rehearse while the slideshow is up, it may be worth the expense. The rental store may also be closed at the time you want to pick up the projector or have it delivered, so you may need to secure it ahead of time.
What’s included in the rental?
Do you need to pick up the projector yourself, or is that included? What about setup? Be sure to find out all of this ahead of time so you know what to expect.
